A human chain was organized under the banner of PRERONA in Kaliganj, Satkhira, protesting against the recent heinous and widely discussed incidents of rape across the country and demanding exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
The human chain took place on March 12 at 10:30 AM in front of the main road of the Upazila Administration Office. The event was presided over by Ila Devi Mallik, the President of PRERONA, and conducted by Sukumar Das Bacchu, the General Secretary of Kaliganj Press Club.
Speakers at the event included Kalyan Banerjee, Senior Journalist of Prothom Alo, Satkhira District; Saiful Bari Sofu, President of Kaliganj Press Club; Sheikh Anwar Hossain, President of Kaliganj Upazila Branch of Journalists' Association; Sheikh Parvez, Member Secretary of Kaliganj Chhatra Dal; Maruf Hossain, Student Coordinator; Sokina Khatun, Executive Director of Mission Nari Unnayan Sangstha; and Sahida Khatun from Jankalyan Sangstha.
Also present were Dipika Adhikari, Program Coordinator of PRERONA; Falguni Rahman and Utpal Adhikari, Program Officers; along with local residents and journalists.
During the event, all attendees raised their voices in unison, demanding justice and exemplary punishment for the rapists.
